Walking with New Physical Fitness Guidelines

\"\"New physical fitness guidelines were recently issued by the federal government that recommend to achieve at least 150 minutes of aerobic physical activity and two sessions of muscle-strengthening activity each week. Aerobic activities include anything that gets your heart rate up, like biking, running, or even walking. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, less than one in three Americans currently meet this standard.

These new guidelines aim to reduce the average person’s amount of sitting time which in the United States is at an all-time high. Part of this problem comes from the nature of where people spend significant amounts of time, the workplace. No matter what your company culture is, a lot of jobs still involve long hours sitting behind a desk. Working long hours and juggling busy schedules can make any kind of physical activity a challenge to accomplish. While this may make it more difficult to meet the new physical fitness guidelines, it is not impossible.

One of the easiest ways to get in aerobic activity is by walking. Here at Walkingspree we believe in the power of this simple act, and how it can benefit your health in a significant way. Our programs aim to make walking fun and motivate you to do more of it.  “Walkingspreegets me moving, after sitting at my desk for long periods. It’s beneficial to my health all-around”, said one of our members.

Although these new guidelines may challenge you, its important to start taking steps in the direction of our wellbeing. How will you get your 150 minutes in?
